The Evolution of the Kia Brand Car Company

At first glimpse Kia might stand for just about anything; the word is short, snappy and quick, a marketers dream. That is probably what the Korean car manufacturer was thinking when they sought a name for the playful and fun car they created from its moment of conception in 1944, when the Kia first found its foothold not as a car, but as a bicycle.

From Pedal To Car

The Kia began as a bike, followed by a scooter, and eventually moved on up the world of transportation to convert to a motorcycle. Finally Kia manufacturers worked their way through the process of transforming the Kia machine into something that was more suited to multiple travelers. That is when the company began building cars, a process that took place in the 1970s.

The first Kia car was a medium sized passenger car that was named interestingly enough, Brisa. This name sounds as interesting as the name Kia, sending notions of breezes and billowing winds through the mind’s eye.

Kia later developed more technologically advanced automobiles, having glanced at cars like the Fiat, whom the company partnered with while producing other technology. During the 80s Hyundai was the Korean automobile leader in car manufacturing. Kia’s newer models during this time included the Pride, also known as the Ford Festiva.

Modern Car Marvels

Kia was still struggling to come up with a product that would sell in the US. In 1992 however, that would change, as the Kia brand incorporated in the US and began selling vehicles. One of the most sellable features Kia had to offer was its pricing strategy, which was incredible, affordable for sport utility vehicles. Kia started offering the Sportage in 1995, although it struggled due to management difficulties.

Kia has gone through some tough times, but since 2001 the company has been working on a quality line of cars that include excellent warranties. Among the newer brands offered include popular models like the Cee’d, Rio and Sorento. These brands are reliable, and doing well. In 2006 Kia unveiled the Soul, which continues to do well and appeal to the modern market.
